68bigmike Posted August 31, 2014 Report Posted August 31, 2014 Looking for advise I built a ported box tuned at 35hz in side the harley bag not really getting the performance I was looking for any suggestions maybe tune it at different frequency or different type of box any advise would greatly be appreciated
slowfkncar Posted August 31, 2014 Report Posted August 31, 2014 Better off making it sealed if its going to be facing into the open environment. If you put a subwoofer enclosure inside of a sealed box you won't have much output except for some buzzing and vibration. You have to use the bag as an enclosure and month *MOUNT them facing in or out.

I didn't explain it rite I guess I used the bag as a box with the speaker and port facing out of the bag and walled off the inside of the bag to get proper air space that is required. Was wondering if tuning it to a higher frequency would help or different type of enclosure (band pass/4th order)

_paralyzed_ Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 You're not really going to get performance with a 6.5" SW in an open air environment. In the most efficient well built enclosure it will be "meh" at best. Then fire up the engine on top of that, and you're not going to hear shit.
slowfkncar Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 35 hz is pretty low for a 6.5" sub. So,yes raising it will make it louder. Honestly though ported isn't the way to go when they are facing an open environment. Probably sounds like a one note wonder huh? I would try sealed to spec and do not go any bigger ,make sure you are feeding good power. It will need it.
White Lightning Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Sub / enclosure really needs to be mounted directly to the frame for best impact. And I would recommend sealed also. gckless Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Maybe a sealed pair per side would get you something. But at speed, you're fighting an uphill battle. Good luck, I'd like to see pics.
