gckless Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 If you're looking for budget subs, Obsidian is the way to go. Soundqubed won't be bad, I just think you'd get a little more on a budget with Obsidian. Of course if you're willing to spend a little more on the better lines, go Soundqubed. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand. REH Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Those eBay boxes are 5/8 mdf, and who knows what the construction of them is like behind the carpet. OP- If you can build your own box, you're always better off to do so. The guys in the enclosure section here will help you out if you give them your dimensions in your trunk, and you can get a box that will fit nicely in your space.... built better than any prefab & to spec for your sub and tuning you want.
krazz619 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Report Posted September 13, 2014 Hey so I think I'm gonna go with a HDS212 D2 with their Q1-750 amp. Also I know a custom box is the BEST option for a box but I don't really wanna go through with that for this little system. I'm wondering if this box would be perfect http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7498_Belva-Sub-Box-1SV12G-Gray.html Still need help on a 1 battery upgrade for starting and system. focused313 Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Hey guys, I just wanted an opinion before I make anything happen. First off, I drive a little 2001 Corolla (pretty sure it has a 80 amp Alternator) Basically I got my Alpine CDA-105 deck, with cheap pioneer fronts and stock rears (no amp) I wanna get a P3-1X12 (already in the RF Box) with a Hifonics Brutus X-14 Series X1100.1D (Using 4 Gauge Power+Ground) I'm gonna need a better battery cause I got a cheap one currently, was thinking of getting a Shuriken SK-BT35 Would I need the Terminal Post Kit or no? Would this work out for the time being before I upgrade my system or car lol? Would I need a Big 3 or no? And last thing, if anyone has better options than please feel free to say it. (Reason for RF sub, I've had a P2, and I love my friend's T2. I just like the loudness and how it hits with it being clean enough for my liking) Thanks ahead of time Having used Rockford, Soundqubed, and hifonics...here's what I would suggest: 1. Always do the big 3 if you can, especially if the gauge wiring in your car is below 4ga. You might as well go 1/0 so you'll be covered for any upgrades. Don't replace your stock wiring, just add to it. You can remove it when you switch cars. 2. Soundqubed, in the same box, HDS312, out performed by last gen model Type R. It wasn't tested, but the ear test certainly proved the soundqubes were louder. However, they don't have the same specs. 3. I also looked at the p31x-12 for some bass in my second car. It was pretty much that or a Soundqubed HDS212 (600w rms) in a pre-fab'd box. Reviews around the net say the rockford is good, but everyone's opinion of what "good" is differs. 4. Be sure to read the details on the pre-fabs. You can find a good 3/4 (and thicker front baffle) tuned to whatever you want on ebay. People make them generically in their garages all the time. You can also get some from sonic or other places like that. I'm going to get the HDS212 and a pre-fab'd box. I just haven't picked the enclosure yet. Most likely tuned 32-36 and closer to 2 cubic ft. The box you linked to on sonic is pretty much the same stuff I was looking at until I saw the ebay link in your thread. Learning Everyday. reedal Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Woofer warehouse will build you one to your specs you give, or you can get a prefab from there. Not sure about the quality, but price doesn't seem too bad if the quality matches the description. krazz619 Posted September 13, 2014 Author Report Posted September 13, 2014 Well I did more searching, and I like the HDS212 with the ATrend SQ-12LSVDD enclosure. I'm pretty set on that setup with their Q1-750 like I said earlier... But now my issue is electricity.. Sure I can do the Big 3, but I still need a battery... And like I said, I'd like 1 for both my system and starting in the engine bay.. Any suggestions??? 2015 Scion tC DieHard AGM Battery, Stock Alternator, with Big 3 Alpine CDA-105, Hertz Energy 6.5" 3 Way Components, Skar TX65 Coaxials Rockford Fosgate T2D215 Skar RP-1500.1D and RP-150.4AB
RainStryke Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Yeah you can, mine is able to handle my Hifonics Brutus Elite 1700.1 and a Jensen 760.4. You are not pushing as much as mine and my stock alternator handles it... The lights just dim a little too much for my liking when i'm at 80% volume. I'm upgrading my alternator to handle a second HDS312 and to keep my lights from dimming. Woah your stock alt can handle all that? What is your battery setup? And if I got a HDS312, what amp should I look at? Currently, i'm just using a Duralast Gold battery. As for the amplifier, this is the best deal: http://www.amazon.com/Hifonics-Brutus-BRZ1700-1D-D-Class-Block/product-reviews/B0036B8URU/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1 Here is also a good one: http://www.amazon.com/BE1200-1D-Hifonics-Monoblock-Brutus-Amplifier/product-reviews/B00KDOY3V0/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1 But that SoundQubed 750w amp would work just fine too. Just a heads up on those ATrend enclosures... They are $200. I found that out when I gave them a call. I got my wife a HDS212 and she loves it. It's pretty loud in her CR-V with a little Alpine MRV-M500 powering it @ 2 OHM's. But my single HDS312 flexes my windshield lol the thing slams. Can't wait to get my second one installed.

Yah I'm still debating on HDS2 or 3 12". I also like getting the 3 with a nice Hifonics amp, same price as the 750 amp lol. And ok I'll look ore into sub boxes. Probably ebay, that belva SonicE, or get one built. And ok I'll look more at that battery too. 2015 Scion tC DieHard AGM Battery, Stock Alternator, with Big 3 Alpine CDA-105, Hertz Energy 6.5" 3 Way Components, Skar TX65 Coaxials Rockford Fosgate T2D215 Skar RP-1500.1D and RP-150.4AB
RainStryke Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 I almost forgot... If you go with the HDS312 you need to make sure the opening of the box is 11.25" instead of just straight 11" which is how most prefab boxes cut them. The subwoofer basket is a little wider than most. I learned that the hard way... Thinking I could save some money and buy the ATrend prefab box that looks exactly like the one on the soundqubed atrend enclosures. It's nowhere near the same... The port is very short and the speaker cut out is 11". I didn't have a jigsaw, so I took it up to a local shop and they shaved off a little around the edges to make it fit. They charged me $10.
krazz619 Posted September 14, 2014 Author Report Posted September 14, 2014 Quick question, if I got an HDS212 D4 with a Hifonics X1000.1d, could I wire it at 2 ohms so it gets 700rms from the amp? Also, since it'll be a D4, if I get a second sub, I could wire the 2 at 1 ohm if I wanted?
