Deeznutz
So I've been seeing a few people with this Pioneer 80PRS source unit, and reading the great reviews about it, and the whole "Going Active". I've been juggling in the head the idea of buying one. As cheap as I proudly am, I started sourcing out components, and waiting patiently for a source unit to pop up. First I was able to find some ID CX 6.2's and the CX28 tweeters from an Ebay seller who just so happen to be "Running these speaking Active". Total price to my door $113.00. Today while pawn shopping, I found this Pioneer Premier DEH-P960MP. (Not to be confused with it's lower end sibling, Non Premier, P9600MP) No remote, No trim ring. The previous owner only used the built in amp on this unit and not the RCA's. The OEM plastic plugs in still in place. Total out of pocket expense.....$75.00 Looking at the manual, it has an "Active" option, "Time Alignment", a "13 Band EQ", and other features the 80PRS has. But ofcourse, this 960MP was made in 2004, and the 80PRS probably has better more tweaked adjustments. I'm slowly moving from Bass,Bass,Bass, to wanting a more finesse sound. Guitar solo intros, sharp cymbals, extra musical sounds/notes that may have been over looked in the past are now more appealing to me as I enter my 40's. She's sorta bulky, but can't beat it for the price. This is what sold me. When I saw the "Premier" and these RCA's. 6.5V outputs. Damn! What I love about this set up is, I was going to buy the CX crossovers for $69.99 on Ebay. Now I do not have to. Now I have to find maybe an Audison 4 channel amp. Any input would be appreciated. -Frank
CleanSierra
Good pickup on that deck. I haven't been a Pioneer fan until my recent purchase of that 80PRS. Those old Premier decks hold their own I'm sure of it. Great price and condition looks really solid too. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. Deeznutz
I installed the cd player a few days ago using the standard set up, not the 3 way as of yet. I love this unit. The equalizer really works alot better than the parametric eq Pioneer usually puts out. The only thing I do not like is the blue glow it has. Too bad the display color can not match the BMW Orange. Oh well. I just picked up a Phoenix Gold Elite.4. I would love to use this set up as part of my 3 way, but the rating is 150W X 4! That's an old school sorta rating. How am I going to use this when the I.D. mids and highs are have a 100W rating. I can use use the front 2 channels with the I.D. crossovers and not go active? And use the rear channel for a 600W @ 2 Ohm for 1 Memphis Audio C3 12. One amp, to run my system. I would hate to lose that second C3 sub though. Maybe port the C3, should get at least 1-2 db more output with the same 600W. Oh well, decisions, decisions. -Frank
