OrionStang
So im in this final pool of prospects for a nice position with Edison (SoCal power company). I was given a list of things to know by Wednesday of next week and one question is fucking with me. Does anybody here know; why the relays and circuit breakers of a power station run off of DC power? I have looked through all my manuals and note, and they all say that relays and cb's run off DC, but not exactly why. I could call in and ask, but would rather not. AMI CUSTOMS
They run off DC so they are always hot no matter what. To keep metering of them always live. They are normally on 125 V DC with a constant charger connected to a bank of series batteries up to 125 VDC. Ahmed Johnson
I think it has something to do with the solenoid used to trip the breakers. The high voltage would not allow the solenoid to rest and it will trip as soon as it resets. Don't quote me.
OrionStang
Thank you!!! I was thinking too hard. That's how I want to answer, just couldn't get the words out right. The site I was at last week had a very impressive battery rack. Can run the system for up to 24 hours without a charge. The charger runs on AC, so any outage over 8 hours a generator is brought in to power the charger and charge the batteries. Ill try to snap some pics if its allowed. @AMI DOn't think thats right Ahmed. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
