ok so ive been trying to stop head light dimming on my 98 buick lesabre i got the big 3 upgrade with 0 gauge ofc wire xs power d3400 mechman 250 h/o alt kicker cx 1200.1 lanzar mnx 460 re se-x subs nvx hybrid 10 farad cap and i got headlight dimming still. so ive researched things that could cause this problem and i might need a relay cuz im using my remote wire to turn on my amps and clarion eq74s and i used a dmm to set my gains and as ive read thats not a good idea so im trying to find a shop to set my gains for me also can the cap be a factor for dimming as well?? this has gotten me frustrated and ready to give up. any suggestions would be very appreciative im new to this and just trying to do things right this is my first system. also i have the bass bost on the sub amp turned up only a 1/4 of the way. help me guys ;/

For starters:

A. Turn the bass boost off, and get your amps set with an Oscope or DD1.

B. Use a DMM and check for voltage drop and resistance on the grounding circuits.

I know the grounds are ok cuz I checked them with the dmm the grounds are to the back of the alt the frame of the car and one of the factory grounds all brushed to bare metal. Now about the boost will that cause dimming ? And im looking into some shops to set my gains and my sub x-over on my sub amp

How are you running your power wire? Alt to bat, bat to cap, then cap to amps? I would remove the cap first and try again and see if your lights dim. Like phil said, set your gains with the proper equipment and go from there...can you take a pic of how your gains are set at the moment?

i would say yank the cap and see what happens. Then come back here if the problem persists.

Ill have to get the pics tomorrow when i wake up I have tk fet distro blocks as well since the cap acts as a distro block as well. And I have power wire from bat to cap the cap to amps. The big three is alt to bat with grounds that are bat to alt bat to frame and bat to factory ground

Use the dmm to check resistance in your amp and cap grounds. Check around at other spots to possible find a better spot. Have a common ground for the alt.

Chances are you wont be able to stop it either way.

singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Sometimes you just can't get rid of it unless you run dual alt and separate circuits.

I know a buddy of mine use to have 10 D3100s and a 380amp alt and he use to dim like a mofo (then again he was on 25k...) but still.

Sorry double post, but maybe LED lights would make a change (seeing as they need less to run, they might not notice the difference)

I know my LED tail lights and interior lights don't dim, but my Silverstar ultras do.

I say unhook that lanzar crap and see if you still have dim. I have the same kicker amp in my explorer with no big three, OEM 130 amp alt, and a battery that i have to jump start till i go claim my warranty, running two SQ HDS312's, set with dd-1, zero dim. And i JUST set it with a dd-1 yesterday. It's been a year with ear-tuned gain and still no dimming. Something is pulling more current than it should be, and i doubt it's the amp that's actually worth the money you put towards it.
