Front to Back Losing 1v

Recommended Posts

Yup. Bad grounds. Also verify that ground location is good. Sometimes you can have perfect grounds, but if it's in the middle of some thin piece of sheet metal it wont do you any good. If you're grounded to the frame, the frame needs to be grounded to the alt and battery up front too

So potentially if I grounded my alt to the frame as well it would fix it? I don't believe my alt is grounded to the frame. I believe the battery is though. I will try an alt frame ground this see if it changes. This could explain why I have had issues before with frame grounds.

also, i have seen primer that has a silver tint to it, you think you sanded to metal and you are actually just into primer.

I like these dudes for prepping grounds.

I think I used a wire brush for the grounds.

Grounded my alt to the frame last night. Now the front and rear voltages match.

1. Clean the under sides of any ring terminals (had my copper terminals corrode slightly before loosing .4v under no load)

2. Check all connections, including crimps or solders on your wires

loosing 1v unloaded is a ridiculous amount of loss through what, wire at less than 20ft long.

^^^ Agree. A TENTH or something.. i could see. But a full volt is like 7% of total or so. Probably 10% at full tilt levels. Thats not good.

That said, i would keep an eye on it. I have a smd volt meter, a XS power vcm that shows, and i STILL run my fluke plugged RIGHT into the amp inputs at ALL TIME.

Youd be surprised at how your ANALOG (smd) meter may be capable of seeing a LOW hit, but your EYES ARE NOT. My fluke running the minmax setting shows me lows I NEVER see up front.

Anyway, i hope you got it fixed, or taken care of.

Also, just things i was told about grounds. Always ground to a HORIZONTAL bar/location. Never a vertical. And of course bare metal yadda yadda....

Good luck. Happy booming...

Hmmm why never ground at a vertical location?

Hmmm why never ground at a vertical location?

I'm curious now too even though mine are already horizontal

Horizontal bars in the frame are a larger gauge.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
