Dissapointed with install..come in with some suggestions guys im all ears.

So installed jbl p660c and new head unit and 2channel for my buddy. Old full size blazer. Soundstream reference 2channel (new) and clarion cz702. Anyone not familiar it supports three way active has time align etc for the future when my buddy wants to upgrade and run active eventually.

So my problem is I'm really dissatisfied with low end output.. I'm not expecting a miracle or anything real loud down low..but its almost like theres a hpf active or something. I have personally used these comps on less power and they sounded much better with more low end. I'm kindve at a loss. I went through and amp, head unit is full pass. No crossovers except for the passive xovers .I feel like there's something im missing here, but not really sure what to do next. My buddy doesn't seem to mind and compared to the 4x6's he had its amazing but I know its not as good as it can be. We are going to do subs eventually..but until then I want to figure out if anything is off..or if its one of those vehicle acoustics suck situations .

I learned install on Speakers is just as important as signal & power. You say an older blazer, what year? Did you use sound deadener? Or seal the doors? Where there stock pods the speakers went into.

I installed some T2 comps in the stock location and i to was disappointed with the lows from the mid range speakers. Did some research and sound deadened, sealed, and used acoustic foam to bring them to life. Made a world of difference, now the midbass was really coming from the doors.

Just something to think about.

yeah I try to keep back story to a minimum so there isn't a ton to read through. You guys are right though..i guess I was just to tired to think about it.

I used qlogic kicks and mounted tweeters there also since he didn't want to drill doors. There is zero deadener in right now but a bulk pack on the way. It made a nice difference in my truck when I deadened,but for some reason I didn't even think about deadening etc as a cause...probably just too tired yesterday.

I think I need to wait a day before posting on here sometimes.

ill see if he can send me some some pictures but its not a real complicated install. Head unit down it goes clarion cz702 in normal mode for standard speakers, stinger rcas(4000 series), Soundstream reference 2.370, shca speaker wire to jbl p660c on passive xovers. Amp is wired with dedicated pos and negative audiotechnix wire I had from a while back. Qlogic kicks. All xovers full pass except amp has default hpf at 15hz, flat eq to start, we did play with some eq before he left and I got it sounding a little better. I know from experience they should sound better though so I'm sure now its all in the kicks and how theres no deadener etc.

in regards to setup I used the dd1 0db track and checked headunit, zero distortion at 40/40 flat eq, once we played with eq I tested again and distortion free to 39/40. I did the amp but actually turned the gain down much more since its more than the jbl can handle. As it sits right now its actually completely down to 9v setting and the owner is still amazed at how loud they are, so I left it that way to be a little dummy proof.

In the near future we are probably going to Dow soundqubed budget 15s, 2 ported on about 1k, I know once subs are in, most average people don't give a crap if they can hear midbass or 50-80/90hz and I know he wont care, but I don't want him showing off something I did when it doesn't sound right.

ill try deadening like should have already done and maybe seal what we can, then ill report back.

Why should I use the -5? I have the amp turned down below the distortion point when using the 0db track.

so you set the gain and then turned down more

yes. Just setting with dd1 would be almost twice rated power on the jbls, so we figured out head unit distortion point and amp is all the way down.
