18 10 In A Locan

Yeah it does look loud? While it may not be a 159.9dB Bassracer it definitely looks loud. It's also different to all the other cars around which, in my eyes makes it cool. You say your purpose is to educate people onto what systems they should have. I'm quite the opposite, I'd hate to see everybody having the same thing, set up all in the same way. It'd take the fun out of this game really fast.

No biggie though.

My point^^ was: People say "it looks loud"...but, without a mic and spl meter/readout?...Looks can be decieving Its kinda like saying food "looks" tasty...might taste like crap and be well presented...hearing and tasting don't really transfer to the other senses like "sight" (unless you count the smell portion of taste... But i digress...)

I was offering him some constructive criticism...it's great to see folks OUTSIDE the box I couldn't agree more, COOKIE CUTTER setups (one or 2 subs in a slot or aero-ported rectangle for instance) SUCK IMO...but when they head down the wrong path or make what I would consider a mistake, while trying to be "different", I'm gonna offer a suggesstion on how to better it next time around. Good different, go for it... bad different...well a square wheel is sure different but I wouldn't call it a step in the right direction.

You can get pretty damn creative without taking steps backwards.

The SPL meter comment was intended to let the OP know what the real question at hand was: What does it meter on A SPECIFIC MIC. TL.

I'm sure I can get a "proof pic/vid" of my car doin 150+ on a Radioshack mic or Ericson(sp?) Boomstick mic (IIRC)...or any other mic with a sensitivity adjustment for that matter.

Lets try to veer this back to the thread at hand:

Whole bunches of folks have mentioned the box needs some design work but otherwise looks solid...I agree and I would say just try to focus on quality of sub more than quantity...8-10's would still have quite a "wow" factor to it and would def "git er done" in loudness dept. with a well designed box.

I would consider a horsehoe or U shaped box with the woofers on the inner sides and the curve faceing forward and accross from each other...maybe even 9-Dual 6ohm subs like some JLs for something a lil more "different" than the stadard even number of subs.

This build was a build that was not searious one in any way. I started this build just to see if I could build a groundpounder on very little money. I was able to put this setup together for less than 1500 bucks total, and thats going from complete stock. But only a houndred or two was spent at a time. My first set of subs only coast me 172 shipped for 12 crossfire 10s bnib. their's not one $172 sub out their that could beat that for that price shipped. thats why I wound up with a larg amount of subs in this budget groundpounder build. But my box prooved to be too big and caused the subs to bottom out. So insted stopping their, I went ahead a spend a little more. This setup sounds above the norm and move air(insent that what a groundpounder is). It was not ment to be put in shows and soundoffs. Just to beat down the block harder than most (in my area). That's what the goal was...... nothing more.....nothing less.....

lol... I know that goal could have been acheved in many diferent ways. But thats ''just the way the cooky crumbled" as I was going along. Just today as I was headed to work, I made this guy how was stopped in front of me at the light, take off and run the red light just because he could take me beatin right behind him. He flipped me off, then I knew I was why he was taken off. lol, bet he felt I was asalting him. little things like that gives me validation as a groundpounder.

This setup has been in my car for several months know. I had know intention of keepin this big of a box in my car for so long. But I just have not had a sub to pop yet. The most was a slightly loose dust cap. And you couldn't see it loose just hear it with the trunk open and volume maxed. I been hellbent on getting two btl 18s in my trunk but I'm not confident I can make them work with just 11.5 cubes gross to work with. My other options are AA havoc 18s, SS lms 18s, AQ hd3c 18s, or FI Q 18s.

I appreciate all constructive criticism.

slapmaster...i dunno why everyone is tellin you what you need to do and how much your shit sucks.

granted its not my taste, but for the money hey it gets the job done. to my knowledge i dont know too many people out there that can say they have put 18 subs in a car, esp for like 500 bucks....

anyways, looks like you had a good time goofin around with it and as long as your happy fuck what anyone else has to say.

tell all of the na-sayers to f-off. whatever meter you used is ok for you, for validation it should be a TL. but as long as you are not bragging that point dont trip. this is ground pounder territory not house of show quality customs. let someone else try to do the same with a full size luxery car with what you have invested ;) good job

Nice setup man, props to the work. Sounds great to me.

No point of listening to people who break down everything you do, and tell you how you made the wrong choice. I know im gonna get that for running a bunch of lanzar 10's in my f150, when everyone would tell me to get a bunch of fi 10's, but who cares, its my wallet. Some people believe that you must live for that number.

Anyways, props man. post some of your work here. Everyone post stuff, from novice to pro. You dont gotta stack up on here. Someone will either give u props, diss the work, or teach ya some new tricks...

my 2 cents.
