Got an alternator question..

Went out to my truck this morning and went to turn it over and nothing. Figured eh, it's just my batteries, sept my chime and dash lights came on slightly. So figured they were just so low it couldn't start, so pulled my 2nd vehicle up to jump it and jumped it. Once I got back into my truck I noticed My voltaged started at 14.8v, then down to 14.3, 13.5, and idled at 12.4. Right away I start flipping shit and hoped it was something wrong with my voltage meter, until I seen my dash meter was dropping also.

But as soon as I revved my truck up my voltage jumped right back up to normal for a couple seconds and then dropped down..

This isn't any fancy alternator, just a crappy Autozone 130 that was in the vehicle before. Tomorrow i'm going to go pick up a new one to throw in until I get me a new vehicle. Was wondering if anybody has any idea what I could be before I 'attempt' to replace this one. Could it be just the belt slipping I noticed on my belt there's a slight tear, or is my Alt just F****D.

replace the belt first and test.. you have to replace belt regardless if you get new alt.

I had this problem with my car about a month ago. Check the belt tension and also check wire connections to make sure everything is nice and snug. Good luck man.

Ok, after a little more investigating this morning since I had to rush to work tomorrow, I figured out it wasn't my alt. Turns out my front Kinetik shot craps. When I took off the connector on my front positive my voltage jumped straight back to normal and was charging perfectly fine running off just my back battery, and as soon as I put it back on it dropped down to 12.2-12.5v.

Put my rear batt up front and took out the old one and everything is back to normal. Is my KHC 1800 shot? or does it just need a good charge and it'll be back to good? Or should I just try and get another one since this one was still under warranty..

Safe to say its toast, imo. I had the racing kinetick and it did the same exact thing, I tried to bring it back a few times but it wouldn't take. After the hours and labor trying to revitalize your better off calling it a day.

And of course I jump to conclusions and think everything is perfectly fine, but i'm not that lucky. Got my other battery back in and everything seemed fine, until I got to work and parked and sat there and idled for about 5 minutes, I noticed my Voltage meter start dropping slowly .1v at a time, and bottomed out at about 13.5v. It sounds like there's a huge draw on the alternator like something pulling it down, but the second I rev back to 1500rpms+ it goes back to regular charging voltage.. Does this sound like my alternator is actually going out, or is my battery other battery quite possibly so drained it's taking time to charge back up at idle. If that's even a thing?

Get a clamp meter,hook it up, place a load on the alt, get the answer.

Or pull the alt and take it somewhere that can test it for you.

Also a dead battery can kill an alternative real quick so that bad battery may have taken the alternative with it.

Could I try the whole start the vehicle, then pull off the terminal on the battery post and see if the alternator goes to a regular charging voltage, if it does then it's just my battery correct? Or is that extremely frowned upon..
