Using nail gun?

I think a lot of folks who had glue failure were not using the glue correctly. Getting a really good glue joint isn't as simple as squirting some glue on and sticking the pieces together. To do it the right way you need to:

1. Make sure both surfaces are clean and free of sawdust (I blow them off with compressed air)

2. Apply glue to BOTH surfaces and spread it around to make sure you have 100% coverage

3. Let the glue soak in for a minute or two, this is very important with the cut edge of MDF

4. Put a little more glue on, spread it around and now you ready to join your pieces.

5. Use lots of clamps with moderate pressure, you need to use enough glue and enough clamps to get a little squeeze out all the way along the glue line.

Screws can be used in place of clamps.

Iv never applied glue to both surfaces,I've always just used more than enough on 1 side. Is it worth applying on both surfaces?

This thread kind of got off topic a bit.

To the OP, if you're not wanting to buy an air compressor right off the bat, something like this might be a good option.

You can put glue on one surface, stick the pieces together to spread the glue and then pull them apart and check. You just need to make sure both surfaces get 100% coverage and you let the glue soak in for a minute or two.

YEP^^^

Agree with others in that a proper glue bond is best.

People overcompensate and use too many screws which actually make the wood weaker.

Had a HomeDepot gift card this past xmas and pick this up. mainly for home renovations where I didn't want to lug around my 20gal compressor inside the house.

LOVE it!!! :o

Works amazing.

No more air compressors or hoses.

Definitely worth the money in my book.
