reedal Posted October 18, 2015 Report Posted October 18, 2015 So, i'm not sure what this actually affected but, My radio (80prs) has a setting for stereo and mono on the sub out. It was on stereo and I switched it to mono, now it seems louder to the ear-o-meter. I have more voltage drop which tells me the amps have more output. Can somebody tell me what happens when the output id on stereo and when its on mono? depending on how the T/A was set, that will effect the voltage coming through the L/R RCA channels. Subs should be set to mono on 80prs, unless using a two channel. tboorn Posted October 19, 2015 Report Posted October 19, 2015 stereo would mean you have a dedicated left and right channel for your subwoofers. but since 90% of subwoofer amps we use are mono amps and dont have dedicated individual output sections for two "channels" it shouldnt make a huge difference, unless the music you are playing was also recorded with a dedicated L and R sub channel. Think about how your R and L door speakers can have different sounds go through them in order to improve the feeling of ambient sound be reproduced (maybe vocals coming from the left then from the right, or a kick drum or snare), if your door speakers were on a mono channel then all speakers would play the same frequencies at the same time and there would be no way to differentiate what came from where. You generally dont want that to happen to your subs though since they usually share common airspace and having one playing full tilt and the other not can quickly damage them. Thats also why when you strap an amp, there is only 1 RCA you use to connect them, because the amps are producing a mono channel and only need 1 RCA to transfer it. I was losing a lot of power so I am putting 1 amp per sub and re coning so my nominal imp will be .5 ohm. CJ18 Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 You should see a slight gain going to the 7.5k. Something to remember though, the 7.5k and 9k are both 18V boards that dont really come alive until you get up over 15v. I dont know if this would fit or be feasible for you, but on a 12v system, I believe 8 3.5ks would serve you better and you would not have to recone your subs either.
