RooTxBeeR Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 So I have this dd9515 with direct leads that are a tad to short to reach the terminals I want to mount on the box. I cut extra wire to make the connection possible. I first started with using my soldering iron, which, after sitting for 10 minutes couldn't get the entirety of the wire hot enough to get solder all the way around. So then I thought, why not you my propane torch instead. Now obviously direct flame will just burn and melt the very thing copper wires. I let the flame stay small and held it under the wire so it would get the heat. Got the first wire done alright, looked decent and would do. Once I moved over to start the 2nd wire. No matter what, the solder would not melt into the copper. You couldn't touch the wire for shit, the plastic housing was melting, and the wire became harder because it got so hot. Yet the solder only melted and balled up, on top of the copper. Why the hell the difference from the first wire, to the second. Did starting with the soldering iron, and getting a little solder into the wire first allow the torch to work as it did on the first wire, but not the second? Could use to help here and getting this done. BoomZoom808 Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 Try dipping the points your wish to join in flux and dip the solder in the flux as well. This will help it to flow rather than bead up, you should have better luck. 2010 Mazda 3s 2.5L Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS Knu OFC 1/0 SS Platinum AGM / XS Power XP750 Alpine PDX F-4 / Morel Maximo 5 + Coax 5 IA 10.1 / SSA XCON 12
RooTxBeeR Posted May 20, 2015 Author Report Posted May 20, 2015 are those the 9500-J series? Why yes, yes it is. I will try that, I have to have some flux somewhere lol On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. Broke_Audio_Addict Posted May 20, 2015 Report Posted May 20, 2015 Another thing you can do is use wire nuts. Not what I would personally do but lots of people use them for this purpose. I was thinking about that, I do not have any in that size, and am trying to avoid buying anymore supplies at this time.
