in3ssi
But why can't I charge that high? Like what is stopping me from getting higher voltage? I've got money to throw at the problem lol
reedal
Because for the last 7 years or so, EVERY car has become "fuel efficient", which means the car says "the battery is fully charged, I don't need you anymore" to the alternator, so it doesn't the alt doesn't charge again until it's told to do so. 4 Quote SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=

Miguels
you can always get an external regulator and set it at 14.4. you will get the light and more fuel consumption though 1 Quote my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/

in3ssi
I can live with a check engine light lol if that's all it takes then that's what I'll do Also thanks for the info, that's all I needed to know that it's just the computer telling it not the charge higher Edited July 19, 2015 by in3ssi
SnowDrifter
Get it externally regulated if you want voltage. Skip the car's electronics altogether.Besides.... Didn't you buy the alternator for the amperage not the voltage? Charging too high is overrated IMO. Been there, done that, got the prize. Prize being fried batteries in less than a year. 1 Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
in3ssi
Charging to high? I'm not trying to charge up at 15 I'd like to be at 14 though so I can actually get every bit of power out of my amps. Curious wouldn't it be possible to externally regulate to the batteries n amps and then step down the voltage to the computer to not throw errors?
