sensarmy Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 I have no clue if the coil is 4" I think they might be HDC3, they look identical to this one
audiofanaticz Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 HDC3, dont think they ever used that basket on the HDC4 Plus the hdc4 has a bunch of cooling vents around the back plate around the coil, not just a pole vent. PS, you wont really tell a copper coil from an aluminum coil by the color, specially if both coils are round wire.
sensarmy Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 Is there anyway to tell what type of coil is has then? Also, i just read that the HDC3 only came in 2 ohm and 4 ohm?
audiofanaticz Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 If its round wire on the coil it is probably copper. A flat wire copper coil is rare. They come from AQ/SQ stock with a copper coil, and if you want an aluminum coil I think its an additional $20. The aluminum coils are flat wire, not round. Also the copper coils is a bit heavier than an aluminum coil, but you wont be able to tell that unless you had both coils in hand to compare side by side.
sensarmy Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 So i pulled off the magnet boot and it was labelled AQ-HDC12-D1 It's pretty hard to tell if the coil is round or flat, just tried having a look

audiofanaticz Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 Like I said you use to be able to get them with an aluminum coil for $20 more. Dont know if that is still an option or not now that they got the hdc4s But lots of people used these woofers long before the hdc4 and had no real issues and did upper 155s--160s on copper coils.
