akuma4u Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 Hi Im looking for an amp that does around 1000 rms (900-1200rms is ok too) @ 2 ohms at 12 volts... i notice that most amps rate their numbers at 14.4v but my voltage, and im assuming most peoples voltage dips below this so we are hardly ever seeing those numbers.. perhaps, and i would need confirmation on this, if i want something that does around 1000 rms at @ 2 ohms at 12 volts I should be looking for an amp that does around 1400-1500 @ 2ohms at 14.4v ?? the 2 volts voltage drop should bring it down to around 1000 rms @ 12v? is that how it would work or is this a classic n00b fail that i have just made? thank you guys for your help

MotorCityFats13 Posted November 30, 2015 Report Posted November 30, 2015 amps that are cea compliant are rated at 14.4 but they are also only rated at 4 ohm so anything lower is just their guess.... with a good battery and charging system you should see between 13.5-14.0 no problem.... engine off 12v is more of a red flag that your battery may be on its way out resting voltage with out surface charge should read 12.5ish.... i wouldnt set up your equipment with low voltage in mind just buy stuff with more headroom..... its never a bad thing to have more power on tap and not use it

Is it going in a boat or something without an alternator? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Is it going in a boat or something without an alternator? hey Thanks to all for their replies my n00b theory goes like this if i need 1000rms to run my subs properly , then why not pick an amp that can do 1000rms at the worst possible scenario @ 12V. That way you can rest assured that no matter whats going on with your electrical situation, you will be giving your subs what they need - even during the worst possible situation/times.
