cocoleveo7686 Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 So i go on crutchfield to see what fits as far as depth goes etc. They only give me maybe 10 choices on 6x9s for my vehicle. Then i go on sonicelectronix and they give me all the options even ones crutchfield said wouldnt fit. So heres my questions. The mounting depth on the ones for crutchfield range from 2-5/16" , 3-1/4" , 3" , 3-3/16 , 3-5/16" So im wondering does that mean ANY speaker thats 4 ohms and has a mounting depth no bigger than 3-5/16 it will work??? Specifically looking at the Infinity Reference 3 way 6x9s the mounting depth on them say 3" Does that mean they will fit? Any help is appreciated!
MrSkippyJ Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 so both sites say 3" will fit? you could just go measure to be sure too. F150: Stock 2019 Harley Road Glide: Amp: TM400Xad - 4 channel 400 watt Processor: DSR1 Fairing (Front) 6.5s -MMats PA601cx Lid (Rear) 6x9s - TMS69
bcbrassard Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 When in doubt go pull a panel and measure it. Also figure out how much extra space there is between the door and panel so if you need some extra space for speaker fitment one could build or buy a spacer to help get clearance. Happen to me on the Wife Malibu in the front doors installing T3 6.5 mids. Window was hitting back of magnet not allowing it to go all the way down. My fault, i assumed they would fit being neo magnets. So this was my fix. Before.... window hitting back of magnet. After with spacer..... much better, Gives you and idea how to work around a problem with mounting depth.
cocoleveo7686 Posted December 11, 2015 Author Report Posted December 11, 2015 so both sites say 3" will fit? you could just go measure to be sure too. Crutchfield says it will fit all the measurements above i posted bc i searched vehicle specific, 10 speakers came up and with those 10 speakers those are all the measurements that say fit. But yet Crutchfield does carry infinity reference 6x9s with 3" depth but it says it won't fit? But on sonic electronic says the infinity will fit and its 3" depth
cocoleveo7686 Posted December 11, 2015 Author Report Posted December 11, 2015 Ill use spacers if i have to but it might not fit with door panel
bcbrassard Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 You will want to measure space between speaker and door panel with it on. To do this i suggest taking a flashlight and something small and long(but not sharp) and slide it thru the grille holes around the speaker. This will give you a measurement (roughly) of how much spacer between the two there is to work with. Now you wont know what is possible in the way on the panel without removing the door panel to confirm. I have had to dremel away plastic behind the panels to make shit work before. What ever it takes to make them fit and sound the best. Speaking of that it would be a good idea to entertain sound deadening to the process since you will have doors tore a part. Just depends on how serious you are on your system and budget. Install prep is always more important the equipment used. Easy to get a cheap set of speakers to sound good and just as easy to make i high end set sound bad by just throwing speakers in stock location. Again, depends on how serious you are about your audio.
bcbrassard Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 We have all done it. I didn't have time when doing the wife's Malibu to deaden inside the doors. Now that the system is up and running i can tell they could sound better with some attention so i will adding deadener, acoustic foam and a baffle ring system to help with the midbass. I mean you have $500 speakers in there might as well get them to preform the best they can in the space. Speaker to panel ring, back of speaker to enclosure ring, and a ring behind speaker to help cancel or control the back wave. Easy kit, $30 a set at local audio shop. That and some deadener should help make the T3's sound better. I hope this helps give you an idea of what can go into speaker replacement.
Skullz Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 You have to pull the speaker and measure from the surface the speaker mounts on to the obstacle in the way or the outer body. For doors you want to make your measurement with the windows down as they'll be the ones that require the shortest distance and require a spacer to move the speaker outward. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
never knows best Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 stock front 6x9 are 3 3/4" depth and the rear 6.5 is 3 1/2" thats not to say that it has to be that depth but that is the stock depths also, they might be listed as not fitting for other reasons than depth. like if they have all those silly tweeters hanging off the front might not fit behind door panel.
