Sorry this is my first post and am not sure what category to post this in. So I'm installing my amp and have battery out front disconnected and have two group 31s in the back for now. I was told to hook up all the wires in the back to the amp and batteries and then out my fuses in last to complete it. It sparks really bad when I go to put my fuses on. Is this normal and is this the correct way to be doing this? Just want to know if I should fight through the sparks or if there is a way to avoid them

Thats the caps charging in the amp, its normal and most people just let it happen and have no issues. If you wanted to be super sure everything was ok you could charge the amp with a light bulb first like you would for a capacitor

The beginner friendly caps come with a little light bulb that gives you reference of when it is charged. Similar to a light-tester

use an LED bulb with raw wires going into it, touch one end to the positive terminal of the amp, and the other end to the positive lead from the battery. The bulb will light up, hold it there until it goes out (should be about 5 - 10 seconds), the caps in your amp will be charged.

What he said^ it acts as a resistor so that you dont charge the caps up to quickly
