x infektid x Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 I have a -12 volt coming from up front to. A fuel pump relay in the back. When I turn the key it goes to +12 volt 30- coming from switched ignition 87 to the fuel pump 85 to a ground 86 to constant 12 volt in the back-second batary- Here's the issue. When the car is off ,the 30 from switched ignition turns into a ground and the relay is power on after the car turns off. I can pull,it out and here it disengage and click when I put it back in . It's a 4 pin bosch style relay. Do I need the 5 pin with a diode to keep this from happening? Or it's just not wired right .. Trying to keep the parasite drain off my batteries over night .. I'm open for ideas. if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
Bayuk89 Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 It could be a bad relay ? I have heard cases where someone bought new or reman parts and it was factory defected. I would google a 4 pin bosch relay just to double check ur wiring. Is this factory relay that u just replaced or is a home wiring job for ur fuel pump ?
x infektid x Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 Home wiring job of course ! Lol it has been this way for years ,but just decided to do something about it since I bought a larger amp and more current draw. Trying to take that load(how ever small and parasitic ) off of resting batteries .. It's a new relay also if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
Bayuk89 Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 30 and 87 shouldnd have any voltage when ur car is off. 86 is hot 85 is ground. (According to ur info on how its wired) If ur just replacing a bad relay u shouldnt have any issues unless the new relay is defected. U might wanna see if ur vehical wiring for the fuel pump is normally open or normally closed circut.
Bayuk89 Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 I think u need to look up ur vehical harness and focus on the fuel pump circut. The circut might be normally closed or normally open. Basicly ur circut might be hot all the time and ur relay just grounds it out to all the fuel pump to work. Or ur circut is normally grounded and ur relay supplies the power to allow the fuel pump to work. Different manufactures do wiring a little different. U need to verify how urs is done if u havent already.

jk13 Posted January 31, 2016 Report Posted January 31, 2016 You have 86 and 30 switched. 85 and 86 control the relay coil and should be ignition trigger and ground. Doesn't matter which. 87 and 30 are then connecting the 12volt source to the pump. Again, doesn't matter which. Static drops are my bag.

x infektid x Posted January 31, 2016 Author Report Posted January 31, 2016 I swapped for a 3rd relay and moved post 30 to fuel pump - it was constant voltage to batt before- and post 87 to constant on battery . And now it works right. Now I must sayi have tried that before a few times and it never worked. So o have to chalk it up to bad relay and user error .50/50 split. Thnx for clearing This up and the quick responses folks! And yeah I did look on the Internet and followed instructions that came with the setup. . I looking like a fool right now but a fool with a working relay now!! Lol if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
