Christopher Cleveland Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Hey guys, my situation is this, I had a ford ranger ext cab w/ 2-12 kicker cvx on a zx1500, I gotta killer deal on it, traded a propane grill I won at a raffle plus like 150 bucks for the subs/amp/box. Anyway, I just got an explorer and put everything in that and sold the ranger. The deepest bass notes are definitely not as powerful as it was in my ranger, and I'm just wondering how to compensate/correct the enclosure for the bigger cabin size and bring them low lows back to life. Do I need to build a different box w/ a lower tuning freq? If I calculated correctly the box (prefab) is about 1.7 cu ft net per chamber tuned to either 35 or 38 hz, not sure, I used 2 different online woofer box calculators and got 2 different results after typing in all the dims. Thanks for the input!

ShadeTreeMechanic Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 Which way do you have the subs and ports? Big vehicles can benefit from pointing them to the rear about 6 inches from the back. Jman9112 Posted April 1, 2016 Report Posted April 1, 2016 My Isuzu trooper was about the same size as an explorer and i had 2 15s sealed facing the rear and got mad lows. Don't know about the kickers but if you do a large sealed box, 5-6cuft and stuff it with polyfill they'll put out the lows. My 15s in 10cuft peaked at like 29hz. Ballin' on a budget.

MotorCityFats13 Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 ive got an 07 explorer... single 12 sub about 4 inches from the liftgate and port aiming to the left.... box tuned to 33hz and I love the lows and plays pretty nice for such a large cabin... with a proper box you should be good running 2 subs... my 98 explorer had 2 12" kicker comps and it did very well... subs back ports back.... both were to spec built ported enclosures
