johnny40 Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Hi I have a alpine pdx m12 amp running 2 type r 12" subs ported. Im about to adjust gains but on the HU the subwoofer level controls are 0 - 15. Some people are telling me to put the level on 15 then adjust the gain others are telling me to leave it on 0 before adjusting. Any help much app and reasons thanks.

RooTxBeeR Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 If what that adjusts is the voltage in the signal to the amp, then have it maxed. Do not tune the amp, then turn it up, because you'll make it work beyond what you set it to On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 How are you adjusting your gains? If you are tuning by ear then it makes no difference. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
johnny40 Posted May 11, 2016 Author Report Posted May 11, 2016 Its a alpine HU 4v adjusting by ear using a -3db 40hz tone
reedal Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Alpine, yes you want the HU sub-out level all of the way up in order to get maximum preout voltage SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=32
johnny40 Posted May 13, 2016 Author Report Posted May 13, 2016 im sure with the alpine pdx m12 and a alpine HU with 4v that the sensitivity level should be set at 1.0-8.0 on the m12 . the shop that first did the work has it on 0.1-1.0 and gains about quarter. this is prob why my max volume for the subs is set on around 23-25 on the hu. im setting my hu volume at around 28-30 and want the subs to be at full volume around that volume
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 13, 2016 Report Posted May 13, 2016 Good luck. The only way to know for sure is to use a DD1 to measure the distortion level. By ear means crank it up until it begs form mercy and then back it off a little. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
