Karkov Posted May 15, 2016 Report Posted May 15, 2016 If it's a Mechman/Singer/DC Power then you really only *NEED* the under hood battery. I had a 370 Mechman, then a 370 DC Power and each kept up with MORE watts than you plan on running. I highly recommend doing the big 3 though also. What vehicle do you have and what company is making the alt? 6 phase hairpin? Do you listen/demo sitting at idle? Are you adding more amps/wattage down the road? Depending what your current under hood battery you can always upgrade that too. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS watch voltage and if you aren't happy then start adding batteries in the rear. I too am a fan of great electrical. =) 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. Michael John Majchrzak Posted May 15, 2016 Author Report Posted May 15, 2016 2002 tahoe im planning on a mechman and i want to put 2 batteries under the hood to start off and see how it holds voltage
Ahmed Johnson Posted May 15, 2016 Report Posted May 15, 2016 You should be good. I got a 370 with a cheap agm under the hood and a northstar 220 in the back. Added a second run and voltage is pretty good.
kryptonite Posted June 1, 2016 Report Posted June 1, 2016 More than enough is better then not enough. I have a singer 375, an xspower 6500 and 3 agm group 31 batteries in the back feeding a dc 7.5k at 2 ohm and if I'm idling at full tilt I stay at 13.8. I believe my alt is rated for 265a at idle but I can't remember the exact specs. If I were you I'd go with the big 3, the biggest battery you can fit under the hood, dedicated power and ground runs to the back and have atleast a group 31 of some kind at the amp. That should be sufficient for a bit of idle play and all the 1800 rpm play you can give lol. Add batteries in the rear if the idle voltage drops drastically.
