Does a high output alternator need extra ah batteries to run what a stock alt was running

I am running basic system in my car now with my regular alt and I have no problems I added a high output alt now I got dimming and my engine is lagging when I put the system up and ride at higher speeds but I had no problems with a 110 alt I heard I need batteries bank to support the 270 alt but that doesn't sound right to me I had no issues until I put the high output alt

High output alternators sometimes put out less at idle. The engine is under more load to run a bigger alternator also. What kind of car do you have?

Things that you may not be considering.

1) the speed of which the alternator turns on

2) the speed that the alternator is actually spinning (depends on the size of the pulley vs the RPM of the engine)

Also please confirm that your return path is sufficient. Sanded down and attached to a thick chunk of metal and bolted is preferred. I normally run my own ground wire, but I also normally run rather large systems where 200+ amps being pulled is a daily occurrence.

What alt? Maker?

Every time i see "I added a high out put alt" with mo name behind it makes me feel squishy.

The alt was made by Mike singer I have a regular starter system of 1 crunch 2000.4 and a performance teknique 1000 it was runnng just great with stock alt and now my car lags and my lights since I put in the new alt I emailed Mike and he suggested I needed at least 100 ah for each 2000 watts what I'm saying is the stock alt was just fine no lights dimming no lag on my engine and a high output alt needs extra batteries that just sounds strange I wanna put in a Orion hcca I have 5000.1 and 2 Orion 12.4

I went all out bought sky high wire 1/0 ofc and did the big 3 actually I put like 7 wires grounded everything with 1/0 and had my system fine with the stock alt all I added was the ho alternator

What size alt did you get? The alt might need a higher rpm to excite.

Are your lights dimming at idle or when driving at around 1500-2000 rpm?

When I'm at the light or parked is the amp not supposed to operate better than a stock alt I'm ready to take my alt out

What I notice is when I have the music up and I'm doing 65-80 mph it starts to lag my engine as well which never happened with the stock alt ima send it back to the maker and have him check it out again I feel something's wrong with the alt I'm not to good with electrical stuff
