BMS Posted January 15, 2017 Report Posted January 15, 2017 I really appreciate your time reading this. So I have some subs That have huge vents mainly referencing (i forget what they are called I think they are called t yoke vents) the vents below the spider but above the magnet theses vents are usually small and have like a screen filter grill or what ever on my basket it is just like wide open like 4 vents each 2x4 inch openings and the coil is overhung and most is visible. So i went to my local audio shop they told me 1 they though my basket was a Memphis belle (they are custom subs i have no clue what the basket is) and the other thing they said was be very careful (be cause my coil gap was so exposed) not to get any metal flakes near it. Now obviously to a certain extent they are right but my question is how much should i worry about this. I mounted a lot of speakers on the inside of my trunk drilling holes so they are metal flakes in my trunk not a ton but they are definitely there. How worried should i be and how might i clean them up they get stuck in the carpet a magnet and vacuum might not do the job well enough.
BMS Posted January 15, 2017 Author Report Posted January 15, 2017 Also forgot to mention my subs will be inverted.
BMS Posted January 16, 2017 Author Report Posted January 16, 2017 If anyone has any thoughts please let me know/
Skullz Posted January 16, 2017 Report Posted January 16, 2017 Get a neo magnet and put a towel of something around it to make getting the metal off without sticking to the magnet. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=n52+neo+magnets&_sacat=0 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
BMS Posted January 16, 2017 Author Report Posted January 16, 2017 yeah I thought of it but the towel is a much better option than my idea which was tape. So any idea how worried/thorough i should be?
Skullz Posted January 16, 2017 Report Posted January 16, 2017 It would take a massive storm to move metal to your magnets, so i really do not think you have anything to worry about. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted January 16, 2017 Report Posted January 16, 2017 Clean up what you can, no big deal. Don't drill any holes where the shavings could fall into the sub. I would think the shavings would get stuck on the outside of the magnet before they made it to the gap. But on the other hand, I wonder if the shop speaks from experience? 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
BMS Posted January 16, 2017 Author Report Posted January 16, 2017 I don't know about how reliable the shop is i had all the same thoughts about it likely sticking to the outside first just wanted to get other input ive never heard of it but it seems to make sense.
ChevyBoy95 Posted January 16, 2017 Report Posted January 16, 2017 Seems like you are worrying about it more than you should. As long as you arent cutting /drilling steel within a few feet of them, Dont worry about it.
