Is it safe to mount fuse holders on the side of a battery?

I was thinking about mounting ring terminal anl fuse holders to my battery, I was going to put a sheet of abs plastic in between the battery and the fuses just in case and then mount the fuses on the plastic but I was curious if this would be safe and how should I mount the plastic to the battery and how should I mount the fuse holder to the plastic? should I use velcro? glue? caulk?

Hell no. On the firewall, side of 1/4 panel, someplace solid is the ideal choice.  I've even seen them upside down mounted under a bracket in the engine compartment. Check out some youtube vid's for ideas.

there's not much room, especially since now I have to fuse main cars power wire because I need to extend it to reach new battery post, why not mount it to the battery? anl fuses dont ussually melt, do they?

Oh yes they can if connections aren't tight. Seen plenty of scary pics.

 

Post a pic of your engine bay.

If your melting a fuse, something else is wrong. And if it does melt, then they blow, like a fuse should. 

I dont get why its not safe to put a fuse on the bat terminal. Some one please fill me in why it is such a bad idea, as we have 3 dozen fuses, directly on both the battery terminal(s), and a buss bar. Both coming from the alt runs, and going to the amps.

What should we be worried about????? Fill me in please.

If your fuse holder has like a little mounting square under it, you can drill into that onto the piece of plastic. When improperly secured they can move around and bump into things in your engine compartment. With the heat going through your fuse holder and the movement, it will crack and break over time...

Not likely.  Provide picture proof and then we can point out where someone went wrong.  Notice half of the shit under your hood is plastic...

I mean,... Having something improperly installed, anything improperly installed, will cause issues, But, id think that really goes with out saying.
