amen

if mass affected speed, then heavy 10" cones would have as much trouble as light 18's

playing a 60Hz tone on a heavier/bigger sub would be more like 50Hz

a muscle car with a 440 couldn't go as fast as a 4 cylinder honda

so long as you have power, cone size should only affect cone breakup and nodes, inductance being the largest factor

i think i made all of that up

Here is my opinion. The bigger the sub the lower the qaulity of sound. You have to sacrifice a little of this to get more of that. I think it will keep up but it wont sound as good as 12's and 15's but it will be louder. 18's are slower than subs that are smaller than them but that dont mean that the 18's is slow. When you are dealing with 18's the only thing you should be worrying about is your eardrums.

Sorry bud, but my 2 18's can keep up with the fastest kick drum. 20+ years of playing drums, I would be the 1st to say 18's sucked for fast beats if they did.

And how would 18's affect your ear drums differently then 10's or 12's?

I think you could get just as much if not more hearing damage from ear buds then subs

Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

18's are no slower than 10's or 12's THEY MOVE MORE AIR!!! lows move more air hmmmmm thats why it "seems" like 18's only do lows or are slower there not jump in my truck the kick drums will snap your neck!

I've had numerous people sit in my car and tell me my 18s were some of the hardest hitting subs they've heard- and I don't mean volume wise, I mean the initial attack. Enclosure and overall setup make the difference in sq, not the cone area of the sub.

That is actually 100% true, they were doing a study I saw on the news one night about iPods doing over 110dB right in your ear causing kids hearing damage.
