How do you calculate the radius of a slot port?

triticums calculator works easily BUT... im confused why sundown/other companies recommend so little port area when his calculator is telling me to use MUCH more.. like almost double the amount of what sundown recommends..

Convenience, i imagine. Perhaps you could ping @Triticum Agricolam and ask. Hes always full of insight. 

EDIT: ive measured TS Parameters with my IMSG and found that the manufacturers TS params are not always accurate...

Its going to depend a lot on how much power you are running.  Sundown's recommendations I can only assume are based on RMS power.  Generally the number they recommend is between my suggested "minimum" and "ideal" port area recommendations, so it matches up pretty well.  However, most people are giving their Sundown subs MUCH more than RMS power, thus they are going to need more port area.

You can use WinISD which is free, you will get very accurate answers from it except for frequency response.. not that hard to use at all if you give it some time for learning. You dont need to do any math either.

I tried winISD but some of the abbrviations for ts parameters i had trouble with and also finding the full ts parameters for the sub turned out to be a lil difficult but i can try it out again and see how i get along with it..

triticums calculator is so easy to use and i think i will use that for my next box... i prob will only have space for the minimum port area.. i hope there isnt a HUGE difference between minimum and optimal..

now finally.. and im not sure if i should make a new thread for this or not. but.. the zv3 12 i had.. it kinda got messed up in the foam roll and also one VC is reading higher than the other so i went ahead and purchased new recone parts.. now the recone parts they sent to me are a combination of many different model subs.. x-series, zv4 and zv5.. i will list exactly what i got:

zv4 drop in with brown spider and SPL cone

cone 12 inch sundown SPL 3 inch coil

spider 234mm brown z 12 v2

dual 2 zv4 voil

triple joint ring 3 inch large

12 frame and gasket, vented frame spacer.

The MOTOR/magnet remains the same (zv3 12)

Now the question is: for the NEW enclosure i will build, since this is a frankenstein sub made from different parts and models.. how do i know what cubic feet and what recommended specs and ts paramerters etc i should be following? should i still build the box as if it was a zv3 12?

looking at the zv3 12,.. sundowns recommendation is 1500rms, 2.00net tuned to 35 hz and 32sq in of port area. When i enter this info into your calculator,. i get minimum port area of 35sq in and optimal of 47. So in this case their recommendation did not fall between your suggested minimum and ideal port area recommendation. I guess it would for some models and not for others?

Yeah, Sundown's recommendation for the Zv3 doesn't fit quite as well as some of their other subs (X-series, Zv5).  Part of it also is you used 35 Hz which is higher than Sundown's recommendation of 32 Hz and that is going to increase how much port area you need slightly.

for my new build im actually going to tune higher like 38-40hz.. is your calculator still OK using that high of a tuning?

also-- id like your input to the question i asked a few posts up regarding the different parts used to recone my zv3 which is now part zv3(motor) and zv4 zv5 and x...
