Bigger box/more port area = lower power handling. smaller box/smaller port area = more handling. people are super careful with their subs, and know how much they can take before getting too hot. Also as long as power is clean and short (ie. unclipped sine waves) then a speaker will happily take twice it's rated power. I have burped 4kw into a sub rated at 1000w (Atomic AP12D2) and it didn't even warm up after multiple burps. Got a bit warm on music at 2.5kw though ;/ Quote 10.x volts fo' life! I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more.
