sounds like you have some bad tinsle leads.

at low volume the sub isnt moving much so the leads are fine, but once the volume is cranked the subs start moving real good and the lead comes apart, seen this happen before.

Damnit Dave, beat me to it....

first thing I thought of with out reading the whole thread

But yeah, tinsels if the amp is working fine, if not, what Roscoe said, ground the amp to the battery

I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

this was the first thing i thought of when it started happening cause it happened to my ssds but as far as i can tell the tinsel leads seem intact and completely fine. im not sure what the fuck is going on because like i mentioned above i started free airing it on the pa amp just to see if it was the tinsel leads and it wasnt all i noticed was the typical wear on the spider cause of the tinsel lead slap.

would the tinsel leads cause the amp to go into protect? cause i remember when my tinsels burnt up on my ssds they just quit and the amp was fine not going into protect or anything. im leaning toward bad ground right now so hopefully grounding it to the battery will fix it.

I bet the break is under the dustcap ( if its broken)

this would be the best way to check the sub.

pull the sub out stick your DMM probs in the push terminals, now push the sub down and let it come back up, see if you can get a reading throughout the cycle. if it changes at all while doing this you have a broken tinsle at the coil.

alright im going to try ground to the battery first and if that doesnt work ill try that.

alright so i changed the amp ground to the battery and its still doing the same thing so i swapped out amps again and the power acoustik was playing fine at full tilt with the sub and the sub was def moving enough for me to tell that it wasnt the tinsel leads that were bad. so im not sure what the problem is i still dont think its the amp and my car volt meter tells me the front battery is sitting at 14v and doesnt dip much with the pa amp. i mean i guess its the earthquake amp then?

hey, my lil bro had the same problems, w/ the earthquake amp i bought him, idk which model you have, but i bought him a pho5000d... you probably need a new battery. b4 he changed his battery, when his bass would hit, the volts would drop to 12.03... when i saw that i was like holy sh*t, so we got his a new battery, a circuit breaker, and ran his spkr wires str8 from the amp to the sub (12" Orion HCCA d4). doesn't cut out ne more, but still low voltage problems, imma do the "big 3" when ever he gets some 0gauge wire. the sub and the amp still gets warm though... try some of these things i did, culdnt hurt
