1998 MALIBU BOX. steve please help

Recommended Posts

I want to know what kind of box would be the best to build for my malibu.  I have 2 - 12" kicker 4 ohm svc and a kicker 300.1 amp thats 2 ohm stable.  I will be addind a kx3 crossover and a 400.4 amp for the kicker mids and highs.  I would like a box that allows the sound to carry into the car without having to fold down the rear seats, and would allow access to that thing gm calls a spare tire.  I have built several boxes but I want this to be the best one.  I can work with wood, mdf, fiberglass, bondoglass , etc.  I have been doing wood working fot the past 15 years and car audio for the last 12 and paint and body work for the last 15 years also. off and on.  So I know a lot but not enuff. I do know that iIwould like to port the box thru the rear deck which I plan on glassing and painting to match the car.  I also do ACAD if that helps for sending drawings if you design them that way.

Steve Meade pleas help......

anyone can help...not just steve...

anyways...i would say do some sort of bandpass and port thru the rear deck like u suggested. having acess to the spare tire may be the tricky part though. if u want box plans then pm ray or david...

i likes me some audio stuff...

I would say do a SIMILAR or IDENTICAL setup to what Steve did in his civic the FIRST time. He had to use the whole trunk to get those 18's in there in a ported box but w/ Kicker 12's your airspace req's will be way less so it should leave you "spare" room/access to ur plastic-donut-tire-thingy.

Check out the PRE-THEFT build of the civic.

Hope that helps.

If not feel free to throw more Q's out there.

Like Scratchy said-Steve is a pretty busy guy w/ 3-4 projects goin at once PLUS HIS REAL JOB, so it might take a while b4 he gets back to ya as he gets a TONN of "Hey Steve!!!" questions everyday.

GroundPounder, Ray, and few others on this site are quite knowledgable so just toss your Q out and if someone has ur info, you should have a response pretty quick. Otherwise PM Steve direct.

The more you open it the more air/bass can get into the cabin and thus the louder/cleaner your bass will be. Steve opened his up pretty big so that even if the seats were UP the subs could still hammer thru that giant throat and bounce off the rear window. I know he left the seats down for comps but i'm sure it was damn loud even w/ the seats up. Prolly around 200in^2 in that rear deck opening. The free-er & open the better.

box looks good, properly tuned it will do very well for sq. Keep in mind that you will want it to be tuned low for music but it would need to be tuned a lot higher for spl. I would port each chamber through the rear deck.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

IF I GAVE YOU THE DIMS COULD HELP ME TUNE IT FOR SPL

Of course.

Give all the T/s parameters of the subs and over all size you have to work with. We can at least give you something to start with.
