SquishY Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 After working planning what I wanted from a box, got around to making the design and ran into the problem that the ports won't fit. I'm trying to tune 5cubes to 32hz with three 6" round ports. They come up be being longer than the box is deep and I really didn't want to do a slot port this time but will as a last resort. SOOO, the big question being can they be bent like a slot and still be benneficial? Quote
EricM9104 Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 (edited) yes it'll work, as long as you keep the bend the same internal diameter as the straight part. have you thought of doing external ports? SquishY Posted December 24, 2008 Author Report Posted December 24, 2008 Course the diameter would be consistant, Im already getting close to the tailgate with the box being just 24" deep so external ports would be kinda pointless I think. Also, haven't seen any that actually looked good and asthetics are always nice aswell. Quote
Boon Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Hang on... 5 cubes with 3 6" ports? I could understand if you were tuning for 50-some hz for an SPL box but tuning to 32? That's crazy. The ports have to be what, 30" long? Less port area IMO. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
lance_aka_64 Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 (edited) if i were you i would do either 2 6" ports at 25.25" each or one 6" port at 10.5" . and these are for 32hz. you DO NOT need three 6" ports. also i am willing to bet that the one 6" port at 10.5" long will sound the best. SquishY Posted December 24, 2008 Author Report Posted December 24, 2008 Well, I decided to go with a lot more than I have now as someone recomended. Its a 15" Mayhem, my box now is I think 4.2 cubes with 60" of port and it seems like way to little. The sub is barely moving, not like it's even all that underpowered, got an AQ2200D on it. Quote

SquishY Posted December 24, 2008 Author Report Posted December 24, 2008 Two 6" is even less area than I have now, would be working backwards as far as im concerned. Quote

It isn't about working backwards its about the right port area and and tuning. Shit can be hitting harder then ever and sub can hardly be moving when your near your tuning frequency. 3 6" ports for a single 15 is not needed at all unless your going PURE SPL and tuning in the 60hz range. For daily beating its way too much. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong!
