It's a 98 GMC 3500 Savanna cargo van. Will i need to upgrade my alternator/electrical system most likely errrrr what??? When you say upgraded battery, are we talking like a higher capacity common variety or something more sexy like a red OPTIMA? Upgraded battery means something more than a stock battery would have in terms of Cranking amps (CA's) and Cold Cranking Amps (CCA's). Red tops are good as they are generally higher than a stock battery in both regards (CA's & CCA's) AND are sealed/gel batteries so you can mount them in any position (on their side, tilted, and even upside down) with no ill effects other than folks asking you "why is your battery is sitting funny" ALL THE TIME. Optima is prolly the cheapest & still respectable UPGRADE battery unless you have access to the Werker brand that are very reasonably priced and similer in output to the more expensive Stinger/Odyssy/Lightning Audio batteries. X-static Battcaps are great as well-A combo of battery and capacitor=best of both worlds and proven in many SOUND OFF arenas and street beaters alike. Other options include Kinetic (GREAT stuff ask anyone except their competiton), Orbitals claim to be on par w/ optima AND Kinetic but I have no experience w/ them other than half a pallot of orbital cores at work when I sell em a Duralast Gold. Duralast Golds are decent-I sell them and they are always OVER stock output in CA's and CCA's but still a lead acid battery (maybe Basshead or Big J/Big P I forget had some in his setup). I'd look into an Optima or Stinger redtop and a/some Kinetics or Xstatic BattCaps if you plan on running LOTS of power. ~2cents...ok maybe 4cents that time. I'mma blabbermouth. sue me.
