Yes you can you use all of them before login, but windows is already booted. The computer has to have an operating system to boot to, what James is and mikesmith are talking about is scanning before windows "Starts" not before it boots. The fact is the screenshot from the OP shows a variant of "Antivirus 2009, Antivirus360, and so on) There all derived from virtumonde which as I stated above infects several files that windows "Protects" becuase they are running. The reason why most people will tell you to boot in safe mode is in hopes that the virus itself will not be running and therefore not protected so that your chances of removal will be greater. This particular virus infects files that windows protects so the only to remove the virus is pull the hard drive and scan it from another computer or format and re-install windows, or use linux and you wont have this issue at all!

ive never heard of a bootable antivirus but technically if you had an antivirus that could boot from cd, it would be booted bfore windows.

i have said it about 20 times.......

www.malwarebytes.com

if you have to get the malwarebytes program from another computer and burn it to disc, do it - it SHOULD work! Those fake antivirus things you have should die quick if you do that!!

try it, report back.

Let me know which bootable antivirus there is then? becuase I would love to use it!

The only software I know of that allows you access the harddrive without booting windows is ERD (Emergency Rescue Disk) But you had better know which files to delete!

Man there's some misinformation flying around here... mostly from one person in particular....

It doesn't infect winlogon.exe - as you say, that file is IN USE from a pretty early stage so how can you infect it... even virii obey the same rules as us, i.e. you can't modify a file that's in use... gah... plus it's a protected file, you can't touch it anyway without booting Linux and mashing away at it.

All it does is attach itself to the winlogon.exe shell so it starts every time winlogon.exe starts and because it's in use all the time you can't delete it, even in safe mode. You just need to find the registry key that makes it run with winlogon.exe and remove that, then you can delete the exe file and it's associated crap.

LoL, the only software that allows you to access the harddrive, have you never, ever, ever heard of Linux? DamnSmallLinux (takes some fidgeting to get NTFS write support) or BackTrack both fit and boot from a USB flash drive on any recent computer...

Work on a large scale network my ass..........................................
