Is The R.e Box Calculator Any Good?

i had my box desinged by a guy who used bass box pro, its meant to be 32hz , when i check against r.e calculator its saying its 26hz and also says its .75 cu ft smaller than he said.

I did hear the r.e one is no good but then a guy on an english forum said theres no way it can be wrong as it is simply a calculator and much more can go wrong when using bass box pro.

For the record the box i have is

19high with a 36mm baffle

19.5 wide

27 deep

port and baffle are on the 27" side and its 2" wide x 24.5 long ifanyone can work that out and confirm whats right?

Its tuned to around 26hz depending on sub displacement.

Edit: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...mp;#entry569214 heres the calculator i use

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P4050UB

Subs: 2 Pioneer Premier 12" ts-w3004spls

Sub box: 3.2ft3 tuned to 35hz

Sub Amp: SoundMagus DK 1800

Speaker Amp: Rockford Fosgate 200a4 Bridged to fronts

Front Speakers: DLS MS5A components

2 gauge power & ground

:search: cheers guys,

looks like i,ve just wasted £80 worth of birch :censored:

Never mind i,ll build another to 32/33hz i think

To be fair the subs do sound pretty good i just think they would be better for slightly higher tuning, i listen to pretty much just hip hop, lots of lil wayne, all the dirty south stuff really

I also notice the subs seem to want to 'unload' themselves if you know what i mean, too much excursion at times, i believe that may be down to very low tuning.

Low tuning wont cause that unless you're playing below the box tuning frequency.

The RE calculator is identical to the one on soundsolutionsaudio.com. They are both reputable companies I doubt they would use a junk calculator.

TDH FTW !!!

i just tried the calculator in the link above on the smd site and it seems to differ from the r.e one , the cut list also seems to be wrong as the cuts would end up making just a square box, theres no allowance for the port.

pretty sure i did everything right

either way the only way i can acheive tuning im after in the shape i have is if i have a 3.75" port a total of 26.5" long total area of 148

is that acceptable for 2 lvl4 15's ?

i want it to move shit loads of air and the flares on the port will be done the same way as the thumper boxes, im not sure how much those flares effect tuning? i want it to sound musical as well as dropping low

heres my dimensions if anyone could check it?

41" wide

21" high

27" deep

3.75" wide port

26.5 total port length

meant to be 8.5 cu ft before displacement, i hope that after adding the subs and a few braces, 45's etc i,ll be around 7.5 cu ft after, and the tuning maybe at 32hz , is that right?

on the contrary...the RE calc is known to not be 100% accurate

it differs from the RE one because the RE one is not 100% accurate. my calc is identical to the spreadsheet calc that i used to use. which is VERY close to a different spreadsheet that amatt85 from this forum used, as well as others that downloaded that calc. and the cut list is not wrong. it's fine (i just used it the other day and started on my box today with it). it cuts it to a box, yes. cuz that's what you need. then the port you cut the pieces for you put into the box. it does nothing with the placement of the port. the cut sheet is to just help simplify things.

what do you mean by 'allowance for the port'? cuz...i just assemble the port, put it in the box. then cut out the opening and i'm done with that part
