fearof85
he counts 8 spiders, not 12 I was referring to the recone that has a 12 layer spider. I don't know what he's running for power but I don't think that anyone needs 12 spiders, except for burps. HHR Ed
Was the coil rubbing in the gap? I heard about this happening often with DDs lately. You should call em to discuss. Forevrbumpn
reason why they use so many spiders (DD) is to keep the coil gap very tight, and with that many spiders, you can keep the coil very well lined up in a linear piston motion, with very little possibility of rubbing. The spiders he has in there, the 8, are very soft spiders, not the same thing as using 4 stiff spiders reason why his could have been rubbing is either glue that was used was heavier on one side of the woofer, or debris in the gap, or believe it or not clipping, or to much power. When the coil gets hot, the wire expands, and the gap gets even tighter, so if there is any flaws due to the coil not being perfectly shimmed, or to much glue on one side, or debris in the gap, it will show/effect a lot more when the coil is hot Quote I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. audiofanaticz
^^^ Or playing it in a 18 cubed wall by itself while it sits their unloading. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJtg_8-8agQ#t=0m25s Or free airing it on my living room table with a 150.1 hooked up to 2 d3100s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WlCd-MnwpE#t=1m20s Or having it sit on the wall socket for damn near 20 minutes. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...ideoID=44270091 And then after all that being put in the tahoe for a little boom til it died, and trashing the hell out of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1V3oMaXpMY#t=1m08s I can honestly say I never abused 1 speaker so much before it gave... It gets sent back to DD today for a recone, already got it boxed up and the rma. As well as 2 amps get sent out to DB-R for repair. A Iraggi alt gets sent to mechman to be dynoed & recased to fit my hoe and possibly built tougher, and pay for my PWK box designs.
