finkster Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 i have a 93 dodge stealth. has never seen above 13.5 volts since ive had it. i think my alt is bad. the battery is about 5 yrs old but always stays at 12, so i dont think thats it. anything else i should look for? Looks like im spending tomorrows paycheck on a mechman lol.... PS i have no system in right now either. also at idle if i try to turn the car will shut off... Most stealths are lucky to even see above 13.3 when the car is warmed up. As for my car stalling, I think my IAC is shot, so im gonna clean it today and see if i cant idle smoother. Im gonna bet its gooked up. Im looking into getting an MLA module but would the extra voltage hurt the car if its only used to seeing low 13s? maybe thats a dumb question, i dont know but i do know that my amps wont like it if they only see 13-12 volt its whole life DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active Eclipse cd7000 I serve drunks for a living

The easiest way to know if the alternator is functioning is to take simple voltage measurement. The batteries chould rest around 12.8 volts if it is a standard flooded battery, or 13.1 volts if it is AGM type. If the voltage increases when the vehicle is started, the alternator is functioning. If you want to determine how much amperage is being produced by the alternator, you will need a DC amp clamp meter.
