How well do 15s play music?

A friend wants a simple system and has room for up a 15 but only has the money to spend on 1 sub. He wants it to be loud but still play music well at any volume. He listens to everything from disco to jeezy. I've never heard good 15's so I turn to here. How well would an 15 do on music? Would a 12 be better? He said anywhere in the 140s would make him happy. He has an older fosgate 3000 watt amp and everything else to back it up

I would say the sub will sound good, but if he listens to alot of rock then you would want the box sealed. If he listens to rap more then I would say build a ported box. Now a 12 will punch harder and really shake your seats, but a 15 can hit lower bass notes. So its all on what he wants!

The enclosures will be identical, besides size obviously. Port forward on the drivers side and sub forward in a maxima

I hope you are planning on completely sealing it off from the trunk then.

if u can throw enough juice to a sub it will play what ever u want it to, anywere from 8'' to 24'' or so, it all depends on enclosure to how well the sub acts on certain freq

but ive always loved sealed boxs, tho ported may be louder at certian freq's, its hard to get a ported box to sound good without it bein a bandpass

no matter on size only thing that is different is the bigger the sub the easier it is to get louder

LOL wow, I guess I look at 12's and 15's alot different than other people. My bro in law has two 15 inch fosgate T2's on a 1000bd and he can hit some low bass notes. I got a Diamond Audio 600.1 on 2 12 inch lightning audio VC2's and mine punches harder than his. Trust me when I say that there is a big difference in the way the bass sounds from a 12 to a 15.
