never heard of this before? smart

hmm... why not just run 6th order bandpass?

those tend to be very peaky and not very musical. or very hard to get musical at least

the only decent way i see two boxes working with two different frequencies is if you had separate amps on each box. the settings on the amp have to accomodate the box more or less

this all goes back to acoustical theory.

"perfect" sound comes from a flat response or same volume on all frequencies.

if u have two subs in differnt tuned boxes playing the same thing it will sound bad. reason being because subs are not perfect and each one does each frequency differenty. not noticeable to the human ear but different nonetheless.

now destructive waves are what create cancellation and cause the bad sound.

for example hit two keys next to each other on the piano. sounds shitty. why? because the waves never overlap each other at either crest or trough. so they are constanly fighting each other in ur ear. plus, even tho it may not seem like it on a piano the sound created is not as loud.

when waves overlap each other they are being constructive and adding to each others loudness.

so if u take two waves that are not formed the same as one another (ie two different subs, or two differently tuned boxes, or both) they will not exactly overlap at crest and trough which turns them into destructive waves and decreases the overall volume and sound quality.

basically its not smart to do unless u know the waves will overlap perfectly. and idk what ways u could possibly do that.

the only way i could think of it being even close to possible would be one sub in two boxes (face box, ass box) tuned in octaves

like 20hz and 40hz or 25 and 50

cuz a general pattern u see with boxes is they have a peak at the tuning frequency (disregard what u know about cars and termlab im talking perfect situation) and the octaves surrounding it. now those octaves are obviously not as loud but they are louder than others around that octave.

so i think if u tuned at two octaves it would possibly give a flatter response in between those octaves and a less steep roll off on eaither side of the tunings.

its just theory here tho. most likely itll sound like ass but if u wanna play with it that would be the way to try it.

eveything must be the same tho. box volume. sq inches of port. placement of port in relation to sub. and so on. the only thing different would be one is longer than the other.

food for thought.

so if you had two of the same subs/box/ and amp are all same except the tuning and you simply lpf'd one sub at like 40hz, then subsonic the other around 40ishhz and Lpf'd it at like idk say 100hz?

so you have one sub playing 40 and down, and the other playing 100 to 45 ish hz... is that what your saying?

Isn't that how HT's x.2 systems are set up?

You may be offended by the above. Don't take it personally, I'm just abrasive.

not what im saying.

im saying two ports. two boxes. one sub. tuned in octaves.

so u have two peaks and a much flatter middle ground and a larger response both ways b4 your have a roll-off

not low pass or subsonic filterings or whatever u were saying.

i wanna try it really badly but even if i did it i wouldnt be able to see a frequency response due to lack of temlab. id just have to go by ear
