I'm sure the US can't use the $75 million, plus the cost of the collection ship that will be behind it... I mean it's not like we're in a recession and over a trillion dollars in debt right now.

$75million+ sure can't help out all the families that are starving, homeless, or both either.

I think alot of people here dont understand what this is actually about.

I will clear it up.

Money will be saved if this goes right. And its just an impact.

No bomb.

The 2 ton piece of the satellite will crash into a crater on the south pole of the moon. Traveling at a few thousand miles an hour it will impact like a meteor.

The hope is that it will make a crater deep enough to kick up ice that may be frozen in the permanent shadow of the crater.

There is no harm that will be done as larger objects crash into the moon on a regular basis and this will just make a small crater in an already larger crater.

If ice/water is found, the implications are huge.

We will be able to mine the land of the moon and build bases.

This would save billions of dollars in future missions as we can use the water for colonies, hydrogen fuel, studying biology, anything.

Instead of having to haul water to the moon from earth.

You could see the impact on the south pole with a modest telescope.

This is a very good thing happening for science and I hope we find ice.

btw, NASA is a privately owned company. they do get govt. grants but most of there money is donations and technology they sell.

No taxpayers money being used in this case.
