If it was a simple ported box the sub would blow up and it would sound like poo. HHR Ed Posted October 19, 2009 Report Share Posted October 19, 2009 how could it blow up the sub? The air inside an enclosure acts like a spring and aids in the suspension of the subwoofer. If you have a sub out of an enclosure, there would be no air to aid in suspension and the sub cone wont be controlled under high excursion. A ported box both a sub sitting right in the opening of the port would "unload" all the air and will be just like a sub out of its enclosure. So when playing it and turning up the volume, the sub would move too much and BOOM, Also it would be very quiet.
