Kick Panels killed my Mid Bass

I went from coaxials Memphis PR 6.5s in the doors to Boston Acoustic 6.5 components and i lost all of my mid bass. Theyre in Qlogic kicks which I know arent very sturdy but could that really make all of my midbass go to shit. I checked out all of the crossover points. Its like the speakers are moving like they should but theres no mid bass. Any help or suggestiond?

Those qlogics are usually pretty small, you might not have enough space for any decent midbass to develop. The door has more space.

Door speakers are made to play in an almost infinite baffle alignment. Not a tiny little sealed pod. That's why your midbass sucks.

With all the knowledge here, you could build your own kicks with the amount of air space needed.

The kicks arent exactly sealed. They have a large gap in the rear. I assumed that would be enough for the kick to act like an infinite baffle.

uhm...

how about flipping the right out of phase (reverse the + and -)

yes speakers are designed to play infinite baffle conditions, but to lose all midbass you have other issues

also for testing turn the x-over high pass off or down as far as it can go and bring it up while listening with your ears

I recently switched to qlogic kicks as well and I like them. I still left my Kicker RS comps in the doors mounted coaxial style so that could be a reason why I'm not lacking. Actually I only went with a 5.25 in the kick instead of a 6.5 like you, but I did get the 6.5 kick panels and just cut out holes for 5.25's. The other thing I did was put Second Skin on the backs of them and it stiffend them up quite a bit. I also got more poly fill other than what came with the kicks and put that behind the woofer too. Mine may be a bit deeper than yours, but the midbass that comes from the kicks alone is pretty decent and they are not even 6.5's.

I would check your settings on the deck or amp to see if somehow you've set a subsonic that isn't supposed to be set or have a crossover turned up too high. Are you running actively or passively? If your running passively then I'd like to suggest that you get a processor that will allow you to run actively. You will be able to fine tune the setup to get more out of it that way.

I was also just adding that a processor will add flexability and should allow him to fine tune his mids to put out the type of midbass that he requires. It also may be a reverse polarity issue as you stated and is one of the most overlooked things that a person forgets to check when making an upgrade. A processor will not hurt any, it can only help if he is serious about having any sq in his ride and will give him more options than the passive xovers that came with the comps.
