DON'T get 8k if you're looking for light output, get 4300 or 6k (4300 brightest, 6k if you want some blue [6k brighter than 8k]) 55w 8k look like 35w 6k, plenty of light output dude

I think that the slim ballasts are just that; designed for smaller locations and they also take just a bit longer to "warm up".
