1 18" Solo X Ported or 4 perhaps 6 12" sealed?

Recommended Posts

I think someone might have said it already, but why dont you use fewer subs say 4 and go ported.. I think you will have better luck and will be happier with the final product... But im glad you going away from the X.. Great sub just not for what you wanted to do...

I did 4 12's sealed just a few weeks ago...went for the most woofers I could fit inside the cab 'cause of the looks

It was pretty loud... then I took a sub out to fix an air leak...and fired it up like that - with a hole in the baffle, and that was a bit loouder even at half volume. So I swapped in a 6" port instead of the corner most sub. I've got to say I'm a bit sorry I didn't build this box ported in the first place (it real restrictive inside right now with heaps of bracing) - It's nasty loud, and hits real low with 34Hz of tuning - way louder on the lows than the sealed setup

But in your case, sealed might work better as you have more cubic feet per sub

Okay so im ditching the SOLO X idea, cause there's no way im gonna get 5000watts in my little civic right now. (Electrical)

Im in doubt between the 4 12's ported and 6 12's sealed. I want my stuff to be loud but sound good at the same time. (Flat response curve)

Maybe i should get 6 12s and make a sealed box at first and when i change my mind make it a ported box?

I want to know if the extra 2 12s' cone area would make a big difference!

Thanks for the replies people!

Pretty sure the 4 12s' port would make up for the 2 extra 12s' cone area....

do six 12's ported.

if you say you cant fit it your doing something wrong :P

lol that coming from you, im sure you're right. but walls just happen to be illegal in this country (blah!) so thats not really an option, otherwise i wouldve walled 6 to 8 12's already haha.

btw Love your ride man!

Which would you go for and why?

One 18" Solo X ported (lets say 7cft @33hz).

Four 12" subs SEALED. (something decent)

Six 12" subs SEALED. (cheaper options like MTX road thunder stuff)

Assuming all options get the same power! (2000 w rms)

Peace

EVENTHOUGH YOU'LL HAVE MORE SUBS ON THERE THEY WOULDNT GET THE LOWS AS A 18 SOLO-X WOULD, AND WITH ONE SUB THERE IS NOT MUCH HASSLE IN WIRING AND ENCLOSURE

Lows are dictated mostly by xmax/xmech and physical cone area.

18" solo x might not beat the 6x12's. Should be equal or better than 4x12's. though

MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..."

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.
