Something to consider though is when you remove the metal from that section of a coupe (especially in a uni-body vehicle), you really compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. You may give some thought as to how you can improve upon that before getting too much further along. Given your talents, I think you'll be able to come up with something that works. BITD, I remember a Gen 2 Camaro like this where the owner had removed all of the sheet metal behind the seat back and the parcel tray. When it had to be towed, the car folded at the quarter panels.
