Toyota "stuck gas pedal"

Sorry but i was watching the news again about the old guy whos gas pedal got stuck.

I think this is a big problem and very dangerous.

its bad news for Toyota.

im not making light of it.

...........but if your gas pedal gets stuck, you are STUPID AS HELL if you cant figure out how to put it in nuetral and save your own life (as well as others lives) -

seriously, who is so dumb they cant put ANY car in nuetral, coast to a stop and shut off the motor?

Hahahha thats what I said the other day to my mom cause she was concerned about me and my Toyota. I laffed and said Mom, put the damn thing in neutral. Duh.

toyotas are drive by wire.. (which i think it stupid anyways) which sends a electric signal from the gas pedal to a servo that acutates the throttle plate.

so if theres a short or a malfunction of the throttle peddal this could happen.. either causing it it get stuck open or shut.or anywhere in between

another thing is these toyotas i guess are the type that are push button start and you only have to have the key in the car to start it. not in the ignition. (i woulda chucked the key out the window )

another thing is the trans is probably electronically shifted as well. and probably wont allow you to shift to neutral under power..

i still dont see how with a combo of the emergency brake and regular brakes. you couldnt overpower the motor. or at least enough to slow you down to hit something at a realitvley safe speed..

i am in no way defending these idiots but im sure they could have done something.

p.s if regular brakes didnt work. than toyota needs to step up their brakes on their cars.

I like Toyota's - before this big problem, they were known for reliability just like honda -........any brand can have a major recall - this is a thread about dumbasses who cant save themselves with a single hand movement such as putting the car in neutral. If my tahoe ever did that, the first thing i would do is put it in neutral and pull over. If you shut it off you might not be able to steer so wait till pulled over. If the motor blows up in the process, let it blow......better then dying like an idiot.

Toyota is to blame for the problem but people are seriously very dumb and have no common sense in an emergency.

I said the same thing, but I was under the impression that, not only did the brakes not work, the car wouldnt turn off or go out of gear... The one guy was a cop, you'd think he wouldve been able to bring it to a stop...

if the car physically cannot go into neutral while this is happening, then i take back what i said of course.....

then i will put my arguement to the dumbasses who died because the floor mat got stuck. Reach down, grab, pull - im pretty sure you can do that LOL!

while true steve. that would work in your tahoe. but these new cars are new animals everything is controlled by electronics and the ecu.
