Some people have an issue with plugging in and unplugging rca cords when the stereo is on. When they do this and they touch center pin of the rca (which is a positive signal) to a grounded out service such as an amp. Some headunits will blow the pre out. Grounding the outer rca will fix the problem.

Grounding the outer rca will fix the problem. im totally lost what does this solve the noise u hear sometimes when the engine is on or using power windows??? if the pre-out is blown this will fix it? can this mess up a highs amp if your unplugging them while the deck is on? reason i ask is my highs amp starting making my highs speakers go in and out all crazy and no music came threw them just sound waves and static and the amp blew the fuses and stayed on protect i unhooked my rcas while the headunit was on and then plugged them back in and i seen a arc to the amp from the rca when i plugged it in

As for noise...I have shitty Scoche RCAs that hiss near any wire. cthedinger Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 What brand of RCA's are you talking about, the wire in between them may be the built in Remote wire some RCA's have nowadays. no that wire is a ground. you are supposed to ground one end and leave the other open it is for sound cancellation it helps the rcas have a better signal. have you ever heard of not running you rcas and power wire down the same side? so why would you run the remote wire (which is a live power wire) right in the middle of your rcas. think about it If you have any questions PM me or Add me on Facebook CLICK ME! Um, no. Reaper Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 i know my pioneer had a separate ground other than the harness. nice black wire with a spade already on it for me.
