When checking the speaker output voltage on an amp, is it normal for the dmm to read a negative number with the gain all the way down? Mine shows -##.# and then jumps up to around 100 as I slowly adjust gain. I got the gain hardly turned at all and the voltage is over 100.

Check the connections on your leads/speaker terminal if their loose it will read funny. If al else fails check the fuse on the dmm sometimes my dmm starts acting stupid and when I change the. Fuse its good.

Are your batteries in the meter good?

I know I had a misfortune a long time ago with dead batteries.

Meter read 1.05ohms for sub wiring, when it was actually .2 ohms.

Amp lasted for a few days daily street beating at .2 and then poof!

LOL

If you have a spare pair of test leads for your meter, try swapping them.

I know sometimes from them getting wrapped up around the meter the wires fray and get mad resistance and can give very false measurements.

But you can put the meter on ohms, and touch the black and red together and if you have a lower ( 0.5 or less) ohm range they should be fine, well decent. :)
