what is the thickest speaker wire I can use, and still be able to wire both coils?

Wire is wire. You could use 5/0 as speaker wire if it fit

I am well aware that I can use cat5 as speaker wire, but that doesn't answer the question: I need to fit (2) wires in one terminal, and I would like to use the thickest possible.

i would say 12 or 10. you could just do bolt terminals too

he didn't specify whether he wants the two wires in the terminals or if he wants one wire per terminal and use bolts.

No one mentioned cat5 in this thread, although it works. Also, this does answer your question, your original question atleast because it wasn't specific.
