Its reallu depressing and hes been a guard for over 10 years because the waiting list to get an Interceptor is that long. I'm waiting to get approval to do some ride alongs with my cousin, who is a county deputy. Being a volunteer firefighter, I've been "around" it somewhat, and can vouch that it's not for everybody. Pay depends on the department. Around here there are some departments that the starting pay is very good, and others that aren't good at all. There's departments that want you to have at least 60 college credit hours, and some that could care less. I'm planning on doing some ride alongs and maybe look into becoming a reserve deputy (working one shift a month with a certified officer). For as small of a county as we are there can be quite a bit going on here. Last year we had two triple murders (one was a triple murder/suicide) within about six months of each other. We've also got a rather large interstate running through the southern part of the county, and there's been some BIG drug busts. This was a few years ago, so we were 20-21 then. I don't know what someone that age could do there that's not a sheriff. Well, I haven't seen him since, been about 1.5-2 years and I saw him at the county fair a couple of weeks ago. Dude was jacked up and in a sheriff uniform. Scared the shit outta me.
