Ricky A.
im building a box for 2 18's with 3k rms going to each one. i was gonna do a box with a mdf bottom half and the top half be fiber glass so it looks badass. but someone told me it would shatter under the weight and pressure no matter how many layers i have.. is this true? what else should i be concerned about. ive built my share of boxes and work with fiberglass frequently. just not on this scale. TeamHT
Not true. You can layer enough to make the glass more than strong enough. I honestly doubt you've worked enough with glassing...just saying. I've built an enclosure for six 15" kicker L7s...2 years to date and the guys system still wang Quote Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you? Rotten
i personally like glassing over a mdf box.... that way your box can be ideal internal measurements and ya just shape the outside... im doing that with my center console now... not really shaping, but smeared a mix of glass resin and bondo all around, let it harden, sanded it down a bit, then bondo'd it and sanded smooth. getting painted to match my truck. flashlight_65
The enclosure I made for my caddy is mostly made of fiberglass I had iirc 10-12 layers and it doesn't have a big curve to it but its strong. It handled a 18" BTL on a crunch gp 3000.1 daily. Check out the build on my sig Quote My builds: my caddy my 'hoe friends impala
TeamHT
That would really depend on what 18s. 6 to 7 layers might do it but I would do 10 layers minimum. But not all 18s are the same, so weight will definitely differ. Quote Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

Superjay
7-8 layers of matte then 1/2" of kitty hair flowed through the enclosure. mbdblue
depends on the weight of the glass too. with 1.5 oz, Id probably do 10+ layers like TeamHT said.
