Gasoline is a product just like a pack of gum. The price is set by the companies that own the gas based on the value of crude oil. The TAX we pay on gas is applied by the state and the federal government. This tax is the only thing that could be changed by the government. And the money that the two auto companies borrowed has been paid back to the government with interest.
